1893 WORLD'S FAIR

Acrylic on Wood

48” x 48”

The first Ferris Wheel was designed by George W. Ferris for the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago.  It was constructed to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Colombus’s landing in America and to rival the widely praised architectural feat of Paris’ 1889 World’s Fair… the Eiffel Tower.
